World Cup debutants Cape Verde fought back to claim a historic 2-2 draw against Uruguay, leaving the South American giants on the verge of exit.

Minnows Cape Verde continued their fairytale World Cup debut on Sunday, fighting back to secure a sensational 2-2 draw against heavyweights Uruguay in Miami.
Following their stunning opening draw with Spain, the African nation proved they belong on the grand stage with another fearless display.
The debutants shocked the two-time world champions early when Kevin Pina smashed home a brilliant long-range free-kick. However, Uruguay responded fiercely just before the break, striking twice through Maximiliano Araujo and Agustin Canobbio to turn the game on its head.
Uruguay appeared completely in control until a catastrophic second-half blunder from veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. The keeper inexplicably rushed off his line, allowing Cape Verde substitute Helio Varela to calmly stroke the ball into an empty net.
This historic result keeps Cape Verde’s knockout dreams alive ahead of their final clash with Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Marcelo Bielsa’s struggling Uruguay face a must-win showdown against Spain to avoid a premature tournament exit.
